My virtual singer has songs and videos. How do I show they belong to her?
A virtual singer, a VTuber, an AI idol: the character is the brand and the works are the catalogue, and the two are held together by nothing but your say-so. Two years in, with forty tracks and a channel, that is a fragile place to be — for you, and for anyone who might one day buy or licence her.
Two records per work, not one
Each song or video gets its own authorship record first: the file fingerprint, the name it was released under, the date, your contribution if AI helped. That record stands on its own and would survive the character disappearing.
Then a binding record: this work, this character's registry ID, this version of her specification, on this date. It is a second card with a second fingerprint, anchored on its own. The two dates are allowed to differ — the song existed on the 10th, it was bound to her on the 19th — and the gap is itself information. How to prove a song belongs to a character that has no face goes through the reasoning.
What the binding carries
Binding a work runs a set of checks, each recorded as its own dated fact, none of them a judgement about the art:
- Timing — the file's embedded dates, the record date, the character's registration date, in order.
- Attribution — for a linked work, whether the page named the character or you when it was snapshotted.
- Rights — your declaration; for music, both composition and recording.
- Exposure — whether the work was public, and since when.
- Channel — if the YouTube channel or site is verified, whether this work was published there.
- Version chain — which earlier work this one derives from.
Verifying a channel takes a one-time code placed in the channel description or at a well-known URL on your site. Reverse links do not count — a fan page can link to anything. Once verified, new uploads on the channel prompt you to bind them; nothing is bound automatically.
If she is ever sold
On assignment, every work bound to her alone moves with her, records included. A song bound to two of your characters stays with you. The buyer receives the catalogue with its dates and evidence intact, and the public page shows the transfer as a dated event. That is the whole point of doing this early: the catalogue is what makes a character worth buying, and the records are what make the catalogue believable.
Questions
Can I bind works I published years ago?
Yes. The authorship record takes the date you claim and the file's embedded dates; the binding takes today's date. The gap is recorded, not hidden — an old catalogue bound late is still a catalogue with dates.
Does binding check that the song sounds like the character?
No. The platform records statements and facts — dates, names, channels, declarations — and does not judge the content of a work. Whether a song fits a character is for people to decide.
Can a work be bound to more than one character?
Yes, a duet for instance. On a sale, a work bound to more than one of your characters stays with you; only works bound to the sold character alone move.
