I made a whole series in Midjourney. How do I date all of it at once?

Short answer: you can't stamp a whole series with one record, and you shouldn't want to. A fingerprint covers exactly one file. So the way to date a series is to register each final image as its own work, in one sitting. Every record you make that day goes into the same nightly batch on chain. Then you group the works into a series page, so people see one collection with one link.

The series page is for showing, not for proof. It isn't anchored, has no number and can't be sold as a bundle. The dated evidence lives in the individual records underneath it. This post covers how to pick the files, how to get through forty registrations without cutting corners, what the series page does and doesn't do, and how to tie the whole set to a character later.

Why one record can't cover forty images

When you register a file, OpenStela computes its SHA-256 fingerprint: a 64-character value derived from every byte of that file. Change one pixel, re-save it as JPEG, or crop the border, and you get a different fingerprint. That's what makes the record checkable. Months later, anyone holding the same file can recompute the hash and match it to your record and to the chain.

A series has no single set of bytes. It's forty files, and what holds them together is your intent: you chose these forty out of a few hundred generations, put them in this order and gave them a name. There are workarounds, and they're all weaker.

ApproachWhat the fingerprint coversCan you later prove a single image?
Each image registered as its own workEvery byte of each imageYes, image by image
One contact sheet (a grid of thumbnails) registered as one imageThe sheet onlyOnly that it appeared, small, on the sheet
One link to a gallery or profile pageA snapshot of that page as we fetched itDepends on what the page returned; not the image files
A series page on OpenStelaNothing. It isn't anchoredNo. It points to the records underneath

Uploads take audio, image and video files only (images as JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 12 MB each), so a zip of the whole folder isn't an option either.

Choose the files you'll actually keep

Before you register anything, decide which file of each image is the one. Midjourney gives you more than one candidate on the way: the grid, the upscale you picked, variations, and maybe an edit you made afterwards in Photoshop or Krita. Each is a different file with a different fingerprint.

  1. Put the final version of each image in one folder. That's the file you'll post, print or send to a client. Not a screenshot, and not a copy saved back from Instagram, which recompresses images.
  2. Give the files names that sort in series order (01-harbour.png, 02-lantern.png and so on). Uploads use the file name as the title if you leave the title blank, so this saves typing.
  3. Keep that folder untouched after you register. The chain can vouch for a fingerprint. It can't vouch for a file you've since overwritten.

If you also worked on the images by hand (repainted a face, composited two outputs, fixed hands), register the edited file as the work. That's the version with your contribution in it.

Register them in one sitting

Open the works page and choose Register a work, then Upload a file. The form takes one file at a time. There's no multi-select, and we built it that way on purpose: each record carries your own statement about that image, and a bulk form tends to produce forty identical, empty statements.

For each image:

  1. Drop in the file. Leave Title blank to use the file name, or type a proper title.
  2. Attribution: the name the series is published under. A pen name is fine. The form keeps it between registrations, so you type it once.
  3. Created on: the date you made that image, or leave it blank if you're not sure. Don't backdate. It's your statement, and it's frozen into the record.
  4. Tick This work was made with AI tools. Under Which tools, put "Midjourney" and whatever else you used.
  5. Your contribution is required for AI-assisted work. Write what you did for this image, not for the whole series. "Ran about 60 prompts for the harbour scenes, picked this one; repainted the lantern light and the figure's hands in Krita; cropped to 4:5." That's worth far more later than "made with Midjourney".
  6. Rights: declare whether it's your own work or something you hold under licence. Only tick what's true for you under your Midjourney plan.
  7. Choose public or private. If the series isn't out yet, leave it private. The record is anchored that night either way, and you can make each work public on release day.

The tools and contribution fields clear after each submission. Keep a text file open with your tool line and the parts of the contribution text that really do repeat, and paste them in. Then add the one or two sentences that are specific to each image.

Two limits worth knowing before you start. Each account has 300 MB of upload space. A PNG upscale can be several megabytes, so check the total. And there's a daily cap on how many works one account can register, so a very large series may take more than one day.

If you'd rather not click through forty forms, an AI assistant connected to your account can call register_work once per file, with the same fields. Register with your AI assistant covers the setup. It goes through the same checks and the same daily cap, and you still need to give it a real contribution text for each image.

What "at once" actually gets you

Every record is fingerprinted the moment you submit it. Overnight, all the records registered that day are hashed into one Merkle tree, and the tree's root is written to Arbitrum One. So forty images registered on 14 October share one anchoring transaction and one date. Each still has its own record, public page and Proof Pack, which can be checked without us. How a registered work is verified goes through that check step by step.

That's the honest version of "all at once": one sitting, one night, one transaction, forty records. If you need to show later that a particular image existed by that date, you hand over that image's record, not a series.

Group them into a series page

Once the works are registered, go to Series on the works page and choose New series. Give it a title and an optional description, then tick the works. The order you tick them in is the display order, and you can adjust it with the arrows. Tick Show on my profile to give the series a public page with its own link, which you can put in a Midjourney profile, a portfolio or a post.

What the series page does:

  • It holds up to 200 works, and an account can have up to 50 series.
  • The same work can sit in more than one series (a "harbour" set and a "best of 2026" set, say).
  • On the public page, only works that are themselves public appear. A private work in a public series stays hidden until you make it public.
  • Deleting a series doesn't touch the works or their records.

What it doesn't do: a series isn't anchored, has no number and can't be traded as a bundle. Changing a series doesn't change any record. If the order or selection of the series matters to you as evidence, write it into a record that is anchored. For example, register a contact sheet of the final sequence as its own work, and say in the contribution text that it shows the selection and order of the series.

Bind the series to a character later

If the series is about one character, say the same woman appearing across forty scenes, you can register that character too. A character is registered from one to four images of it, and once it has its ID you can bind works to it. Characters are free up to 50 per account (see pricing). How to register an AI character covers that part.

Binding is a separate dated record, also anchored that night. That's useful: the chain then shows "this image existed on 14 October" and "it was bound to this character on 2 November" as two dates, and the order itself says something. Bind each work from its own page, or start from the character's page when you add new works, so they're bound as they're registered. If you ever sell the character, works bound only to that character move with it to the buyer. Works bound to more than one character stay with you. The series itself doesn't move, because it isn't a tradable thing.

What the records show, and what they don't

Each record shows that a specific image file existed by a specific date, under the name you gave, with the tools and contribution you described. If one of the images turns up under someone else's name, you have a dated, verifiable record to point to: evidence if a dispute comes up.

It doesn't decide who owns the image, and it doesn't say whether any of it is protected by copyright. In the US, the Copyright Office's Zarya of the Dawn letter (21 February 2023) concerned a comic book made with Midjourney. The Office found the author's text, and her selection, coordination and arrangement of the written and visual elements, protected, but not the Midjourney-generated images themselves. Its report on copyrightability (Part 2, released 29 January 2025) says prompts alone don't currently provide enough control, and that people can claim copyright in their creative selection, coordination or arrangement of AI-generated material, or in creative modifications of it. That's why the contribution text per image matters, and why your choices across the series are worth writing down. How much do I have to do for an AI work to be protected? goes further. This is general information, not legal advice.

What you may do with Midjourney output (publish it, sell it, use it for a client) is set by Midjourney, and can depend on your plan. Read the current Midjourney Terms of Service for your account yourself. We don't summarise them here, because they change. Registering with us doesn't change what those terms allow.

  2. 檔名照系列順序取,例如 01-harbour.png、02-lantern.png。

Questions

Can I upload the whole folder at once?

No. The works form takes one file per registration, and zip files aren't accepted. Register each final image as its own work in one sitting. Everything registered that day is anchored in the same nightly batch, so the images end up with the same date.

Is the series itself on chain?

No. A series is a display grouping: no number, no anchoring, and it can't be sold as a bundle. The anchored evidence is in each work's record. If the selection or order matters, register a contact sheet of the sequence as its own work and describe it in the contribution text.

Should I register the grid, the upscale, or my edited version?

Register the file you'll actually publish or deliver, and keep it unchanged. If you edited it by hand, the edited file is the one that carries your contribution. You can register earlier versions as separate works if you want them on record too.

I'll make the character's own page later. Can I bind the series then?

Yes. Register the character from one to four images, and once it has an ID, bind each work to it. The binding is a separate dated record, so the chain shows both when each image existed and when you tied it to the character.
