How do I timestamp a Higgsfield video? Paste the file link, not just the post
The quickest way to put a date on a Higgsfield video is to register the file, not the post. On Higgsfield, right-click the finished video, choose Copy video address, and paste that into OpenStela's works page. We download the original from Higgsfield and register it like an upload. The fingerprint is the SHA-256 of the video itself. You don't need a browser extension or any integration, just the address.
Pasting your Instagram or TikTok post link also works, but it records something weaker. A post link documents where and under what name the clip was published. It doesn't fingerprint the video. And Instagram often gives no public preview at all, so the record ends up saying only that you named that link as your work on that day. If you care about the clip, register the file first. Add the post link once it's live. If you work in Claude or ChatGPT, you can do the same thing by pasting the address into the chat and saying "register this".
Three ways to register a clip, and what each one covers
All three end in the same kind of record: your name, the date, a rights declaration, the AI tools you used, what you contributed, and a fingerprint. The difference is what that fingerprint is computed over.
| You paste | What we fetch | What the fingerprint covers | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
Higgsfield file address (.mp4, .webm, .png, .jpg, .webp) | The original file, downloaded from Higgsfield | The video or image itself | The content |
| TikTok or X post link | The platform's public embed data: title, author, thumbnail | A snapshot of that data | Where and under what name it was published |
| Instagram, Facebook or Threads post link | The page's public preview, if it gives one | The preview, or only the link if it gave nothing | Publication, sometimes only your claim to the link |
The first row is the strong one. Months later, anyone holding that exact file can recompute its SHA-256 and match it to the record and the chain. A post snapshot can't do that, because it never contained the video. How to put a date on an AI video explains the same split for Sora, Veo and Runway clips.
Copy the file address and register it
- On Higgsfield, open the finished video in your browser. Right-click the video and choose Copy video address. For an image, it's Copy image address.
- Open the works page, choose Register a work, then Paste a link, and paste.
- Before you submit, the form tells you it recognised a Higgsfield file and that the whole file will be downloaded on submit. Nothing is downloaded or recorded yet at this point.
- The form ticks This work was made with AI tools for you and puts "Higgsfield" in the tools field. Add anything else you used, such as an editor or a voice tool.
- Write Your contribution. It's required for AI-assisted work and the form leaves it blank on purpose. Write what you did, not how good it is: "Wrote the shot idea; my own character reference images; Motion Transfer on a clip I shot; trimmed and added sound in CapCut."
- Pick the rights declaration that's true. If the character is registered, bind the work to it here.
- Register. The record is fingerprinted straight away and anchored to a public chain in that night's batch.
Once it's registered, the record notes that the file was fetched from Higgsfield. It doesn't keep the download address in the record or show it on the public page, since that address can be a signed link meant only for you. The authorship record itself can't be changed later. Only the title, the note and the public switch can.
When the file address doesn't work
The paste route depends on what your browser actually copies. A few things can go wrong, and each has a plain fix.
- **The address starts with
blob:or has no file extension.** That isn't a file address. We only treat an address as a Higgsfield file if it ends in.mp4,.webm,.png,.jpg,.jpegor.webpand sits on a Higgsfield host. Download the video and use Upload a file instead. You get the same fingerprint either way, as long as it's the same file. - The host isn't one we recognise. We check the address against a short list of Higgsfield's own domains and the CloudFront hosts we've seen it serve files from. If Higgsfield starts serving from a new one, the address won't be treated as a Higgsfield file until we add it. Upload the file meanwhile.
- The download fails. If the link has expired or the file can't be reached, you get an error and nothing is registered. Copy the address again from Higgsfield and paste it fresh.
- The file is too big. Videos can be up to 100 MB per file and images up to 12 MB. Uploaded and downloaded works share 300 MB of space per account. Link-type works take almost none.
- You already registered it. The same file address can only be registered once per account. You'll get a message with the date of the first record instead of a second one.
There is also a daily cap on how many works one account can register. Registering is free, within the storage space above (see pricing).
Then add the post link, and know what it says
After you post, paste the TikTok, Instagram or X link the same way. It records a different fact: that the clip was published at that address, under that name, at that time.
For TikTok and X we read the platforms' public embed data, which gives a title, the author and a thumbnail. For Instagram, Facebook and Threads we read the page's public link preview. Instagram often doesn't give one, and neither does a post behind a login wall. When that happens, the form says so before you submit. The record is then labelled "Link supplied by the registrant". It states only that you named that URL as your work at that time, not what the post contains. We don't make up a snapshot we couldn't read, and we don't refuse the link either.
That label is honest, but it's a weaker record. It's one more reason to register the file from Higgsfield first. The file covers the content, and the post link covers where it went out.
Doing it from Claude or ChatGPT
If you already plan videos in an AI assistant, the registering step can happen in the same chat. OpenStela runs a remote MCP server at https://app.openstela.io/mcp. In claude.ai or ChatGPT you add it as a custom connector and sign in to OpenStela to approve it. You don't copy any key. Claude Code, Cursor and other clients use an API key from your account settings. The developers page has the exact setup.
Then paste the Higgsfield file address into the chat and say something like:
Register this as "Mira — rooftop", AI-assisted with Higgsfield. I shot the source clip and drew the character sheet; Motion Transfer did the rest. Bind it to Mira.
The register_work tool takes the URL and goes through the same path as the form. A Higgsfield file address is downloaded and fingerprinted as a file, and a post link becomes a link record. The contribution field is still required, so a good assistant will ask you for it if you didn't say. Write it yourself. It's your statement, and it can't be changed once the work is registered.
Two limits worth knowing. If the assistant sends a file directly instead of a URL, the cap is 16 MB, so for video the file address is usually the better route. And the connector has no tools to delete anything, sign a deal or pay. Can ChatGPT or Claude register my work for me? covers what it can and can't do. Check the new record on your works page afterwards, the same as anything you register yourself.
What the record shows, and what it doesn't
A record shows that a specific file existed on a specific date, under the name you gave, with the AI tools and contribution you wrote down. If the same clip turns up under someone else's account later, you have a dated, verifiable record to point to. It's evidence if a dispute comes up.
It doesn't decide who owns the clip or whether it's protected by copyright at all. It doesn't make footage you got from someone else yours, and it doesn't stop anyone from generating something similar. The contribution text is your statement, and we don't check it. Is a Higgsfield video copyrighted? goes through what the US, EU and Taiwan say about AI video, with official sources. If the clip belongs to a character, Made a character with Genjutsu? Do this before it goes viral covers registering the character first and adding an end card.

| IG、Facebook、Threads
Questions
Is pasting the file address as strong as uploading the file?
Yes, if it's the same file. We download the original from Higgsfield and register it exactly like an upload, so the fingerprint is the SHA-256 of the video itself. The only difference is that the record also notes the file came from Higgsfield.
Why did my Instagram link register as a link I supplied?
Instagram often gives no public preview of a post, especially behind a login wall. When we can't read one, the record says so. It states only that you named that URL as your work on that date. Register the original file from Higgsfield too, so the content itself has a fingerprint.
Do I need the browser extension?
No. Copying the video address and pasting it into the works page does the same job: the server downloads the file and registers it. You need nothing installed.
Can my AI assistant register a Higgsfield video for me?AI 助理可以幫我登記 Higgsfield 影片嗎?
Yes. Connect OpenStela's MCP server, paste the file address into the chat and ask it to register the clip. It uses the same download path as the form. You still need to give it your contribution, and it's worth checking the record on your works page afterwards.
