I made a character video in Higgsfield. How do I tie it to the character?
You tie a Higgsfield video to a character in two steps. First, register the clip as a work, so the video file gets its own fingerprint and authorship record. Then bind that work to the character's registry ID. The binding is a second record with its own date. It names the clip's fingerprint, the character's ID and the version of the character's spec at that moment. Both records go into the public chain in that night's batch, each on its own.
You can do both in one go from the character's page, and most people do. It still produces two records, though, and it helps to know why. The clip's record would stand even if the character were gone. The binding says something narrower: on this date, this account said this clip belongs to this character. Keeping the two apart is what makes each one checkable.
Why it's two records and not one
Say you made a clip on the 3rd and registered it on the 5th. Your character got its ID on the 1st, and you bind the clip on the 12th. A single record would have to pick one of those dates and lose the others. With two, the chain shows "this file existed on the 5th" and, separately, "it was filed under AVL-XXXXXX on the 12th". The gap between the two isn't a problem to hide. It's information, and a buyer or a platform reviewing a report can read it.
Splitting them also covers cases one record can't:
- Clips made before the character existed. Plenty of creators register the character after a few videos have already done well. The clips keep their own earlier dates, and the binding records when you connected them.
- One clip, two characters. A duet or a crossover can be bound to both. Each binding is its own record.
- Clips you never bind. A one-off experiment can keep its authorship record and nothing else. Binding is optional.
The virtual singer guide explains the same split for a music catalogue. The reasoning is identical for video.
Before you bind: the character needs an ID
You can only bind to a character that has a registry ID (the AVL-XXXXXX number). If you haven't registered the character yet, do that first. Upload one to four reference images and confirm the spec drafted from them. Made a character with Genjutsu? Do this before it goes viral walks through it with Higgsfield in mind, and How to register an AI character covers the record itself.
Two more limits come from the code, not from policy pages:
- It has to be your own character. You bind to characters in your own account. A licensed copy of someone else's character can't receive bindings.
- Not during a sale. Once a deal on that character has been signed and before the transfer happens, the character is locked and new bindings are refused. A new file would change the list both sides signed.
Bind a Higgsfield clip, step by step
There are two routes, depending on whether the clip is already registered.
The clip isn't registered yet (one step):
- Open the character's page in the app and choose Add a work. That takes you to the works page with the character already selected. The form tells you the work will be bound to that character after registering.
- On Higgsfield, right-click the finished video and choose Copy video address. Paste it under Paste a link. We download the original and fingerprint the file itself. If the address starts with
blob:or has no file extension, download the video and use Upload a file instead. How do I timestamp a Higgsfield video? covers the address in detail. - Fill in Created on if you know the date. It matters for the binding (see the next section).
- Write Your contribution. It's required for AI-assisted work. Say what you did: "Drew the character sheet; shot the source clip; Motion Transfer in Higgsfield; cut and scored in CapCut."
- Pick the true rights declaration and register.
The clip is already registered:
- Open the works page and find the clip.
- Under Bind to a character, pick the character from the list. Only characters with an ID appear there.
- Press Bind. The clip now shows Bound to with the character's ID.
- To add a second character later, use + Bind another character on the same work.
Either way, the binding is written and fingerprinted at once and anchored in that night's batch. If the work is public and the character is listed, the clip appears on the character's public page at app.openstela.io/c/AVL-XXXXXX, and people following the character get a notification.
What the binding record says
The binding is a short JSON record. Its SHA-256 is the leaf that goes on chain, so anyone can recompute it without trusting us. It holds:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Character ID and spec hash | Which character, and which version of its spec, at the moment of binding |
| Work fingerprint | The SHA-256 of the clip itself |
| Authorship record fingerprint | Ties the binding to the clip's first record |
| Registrant | Your public account number (AC-…) |
| Rights and creation date | Copied from the work as you declared them |
| Registered at | The date and time of the binding |
The spec hash matters more than it looks. If you redesign the character later, editing the spec creates a new version with a new date. Clips bound before the change stay tied to the version they were bound to. Each binding records which version of the character it pointed at.
At the moment of binding, two checks run and are stored as separate dated entries next to it:
- Timing. This compares the clip's date with the character's ID date. If your declared creation date is after the character was issued, the clip is marked derivative. If it's before, it's marked prior work, shown as Partial. That isn't a failure. It's the honest label for an older clip filed under a character later. One limit: we read capture dates out of image files, but not out of video files. For a Higgsfield video, the timing check uses the date you typed. Leave it blank and the check records that no creation date was declared and only the registration order is known.
- Rights. This records the declaration you made ("My own work" or "I hold a licence") with a timestamp. We don't verify it. It's your dated statement.
A third check, Attribution, only runs for link-type works such as a TikTok or YouTube post. It reads whose name was on the page when it was snapshotted. A Higgsfield file downloaded by address is registered like an upload, so there's no page to read and that check doesn't apply. If you also register the TikTok post and bind it, the post gets the attribution check. If the character's TikTok account is verified, the post also picks up channel evidence. How to prove a song belongs to a character that has no face explains each check.
What binding doesn't do
Binding doesn't look at the video. Nothing checks whether the clip "looks like" the character. We removed visual matching in September because a costume change or a new style would be flagged as a mismatch. The record holds your statement and the dates. Whether the clip fits the character is for people to judge.
It also can't be undone in the app. There's no unbind button today. Bindings are records, and the chain entry can't be pulled back anyway. Bind deliberately. If you delete a work, the file goes, but the entries already on the registry and the chain stay where they are.
If the character is sold through the deal room, every work bound to that character alone moves to the buyer with its records. A clip bound to two of your characters stays with you, because it isn't part of either one's package. What moves when you sell a character has the full list.
Finally, none of this decides who owns the clip or the character. A binding is a dated, verifiable record that you connected the two on a given day. It's evidence if a dispute comes up. Whether a Higgsfield video is protected by copyright at all is a separate question, covered with official sources in Is a Higgsfield video copyrighted?. What you may do with Higgsfield output is governed by Higgsfield's Terms of Use. Read the current version for your account. This is general information, not legal advice.
From Claude or ChatGPT
If you've connected OpenStela's remote MCP server (setup on the developers page), there are two tools for this. register_work takes the Higgsfield file address and an optional bind_slug, which registers and binds in one step. bind_work binds a work you registered earlier. The rules don't change: the character needs an ID, you still write your own contribution, and the binding is a separate record. Check the work page afterwards to confirm it was bound to the right character.
Questions
Can I bind clips I made before I registered the character?
Yes. The clip keeps its own earlier dates, and the binding gets today's date. If you enter the real creation date, the timing check marks it as prior work, which is the accurate description. The gap between the two dates is recorded, not hidden.
Does binding check that the video actually shows my character?
No. The platform records statements and dates and doesn't judge the content of a work. Whether a clip fits the character is up to the people looking at it.
I bound a clip to the wrong character. Can I remove it?
Not in the app today. A binding is a record, and its chain entry can't be withdrawn. You can hide the work from your public pages, which changes no record. Check the character before you press Bind.
Do I need to bind every clip?
No. Binding is optional. A registered clip already has its own dated authorship record. Bind the ones you want filed under the character, especially if you might sell or license the character later, since only bound works move with it.
